While Serena is pleased by the outcome of the China Open, Caroline Wozniacki is anything but. Wozniacki’s disappointment with the China Open began after she reported suffering from a virus before the Open in Beijing. Despite asking for a Monday start to give her some recovery time, the scheduling committee assigned Wozniacki for a match Sunday.
The world No. 5 maintained the Sony Ericsson WTA tour failed to represent her best interests by making her play while she was unwell. She lost her first round match against Maria Jose Martinez-Sanchez 6-7, 7-6, 6-0 – writing on her website that she was still not feeling 100% well.
“I needed every hour of rest to get over this virus and ready for my first match…. The WTA Tour is supposed to be a players union, but I certainly don’t think they represented my best interest this week in Beijing…’ Wozniacki wrote on her blog http://www.carolinewozniacki.dk/blog/. “I am never one to make excuses because Martinez-Sanchez did play a good match, but I really feel the WTA and tournament director could’ve helped me and they chose not to.”
